Stories of Hope

“Rachel's vision of a place people can call home during treatment has become a reality, I'm here before you as someone who is benefitting from Rachel's dream. Suites of Hope has lifted an emotional and financial burden for me and my family. Again, I say thank you! And thank you, Rachel, for putting legs on your dream.”

My husband and I spent a few days looking for a good hotel with good location and prices.  This is where your story becomes part of mine, where your labor of love, hard work, and money have made fingerprints on my life.

"Suites of Hope is a place where you can truly enjoy the comforts of home away from home. Where in the midst of all the uncertainty and sickness, you can really relax and feel you are at home."

As the New Year (2014) begins with NED (No Evidence of Disease) I want to thank all of you for allowing me to stay at Suites of Hope. I know it played a huge part in my recovery. Having a true home away from home is a real foundation. I loved the condo as if it were my own. You can definitely feel the love there. I know Rachel is cheering me on from Heaven.

"I loved the condo as if it were my own. You can definitely feel the love there."

Thanks to Rachel Midgett and the Suites of Hope organization for allowing me to stay while I was a patient at MD Anderson recently. I had the honor of being the first person to try it out so I was very excited. The condo is very cute and easily accommodates two people and could accomodate up to four. It offers everything you would find at a hotel except that it has a full size kitchen which allows you to make your own meals. It was a great place to stay. I would definitely recommend staying here.

The stay at the condo was what I needed.  It was quiet, homey, comfortable, and felt secure.  I loved the way you decorated the condo…very lively with colors – much better than staying in a hotel.  The best part was the location which was 4 minutes away from MD Anderson.  The distance helped tremendously, especially when you don’t feel like driving to your appointments.  Home away from home!

"My name is Jami Law. Everyone has a story. Rachel Midgett has a story. She has a story that is now connected to mine and mine is connected to yours."

At the age of 15, my 31-year-old mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and lived only three months after that.   My mother-in-law died of the same thing only 2-1/2 years after my husband and I were married.  In December 2010, I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 35.

My treatment started in February 2011.  In July of that same year, I had a double mastectomy.  After healing from surgery and expansion, I started a second round of treatment.  In February 2013, I had my last surgery - a dIEP.  My body was rejecting the expander.  Later that year, my doctors found cancer in both my lungs.  So in December 2013, I did four hard rounds of two-a-day treatments.  The scan on December 26th revealed the tumors had shrunk but were still there. That's when I was referred to MD Anderson's clinical trials in Houston, TX.

My husband and I spent a few days looking for a good hotel with good location and prices.  We are parents of three children, so you can imagine how important it was to find a nice but affordable place to stay.  This is where your story becomes part of mine, where your labor of love, hard work, and money have made fingerprints on my life.

Suites of Hope is not like a hospital room, sterile, cold, and stark. It's not a hotel where you feel shut in and worry about checkout times, parking costs, and money.  It's a place where you can relax, is tastefully decorated but has homey feel, and a place where you can truly enjoy the comforts of home away from home.   Suites of Hope is a place where in the midst of all the uncertainty and sickness, you can really relax and feel you are at home.

So Rachel's vision of a place people can call home during treatment has become a reality,   I'm here before you as someone who is benefitting from Rachel's dream. Suites of Hope has lifted an emotional and financial burden for me and my family. Again, I say thank you! And thank you, Rachel, for putting legs on your dream.
